Harpides
This is an EXTREMELY RARE Ordovician (Upper Tremadocian) trilobite, Harpides sp from the Fezouata Formation, Zagora, of Morocco.
The distinguishing features of this trilobite is its semi-circular to oval cephalon with a large perforated preglabellar surface. The thorax has a least 12 well-defined segments and the pygidium is small.
The Harpedid has a red natural color, probably from iron oxide deposited during fossilization. The cephalon has been well-prepared and the fine details can be seen. The trilobite is 2.45 inches long and 1.65 inches wide at its widest. Trilobite and matrix measure 4.0 by 4.0 by 1.0 inches. The specimen has been repaired through the tip of the right genal spine..
