The four clams in this matrix, Mercernaria permagna , have been infiltrated with Calcite, resulting in the formation of beautiful golden crystals in the cavities of the shells. The crystals under UV (both SW and LW) fluoresce a yellow-green color.
The four clams present in the matrix, the largest is 3.88 inches wide, were found in Ft Drum (Ruck’sPit), Okeechobee County, in Florida, U.S.A. The entire piece measures approximately 7.5 inches by 6.0 inches by 4.85 inches.
