Triple Trilobite Plate- Morocconites and two Gerastos
Morocconites malladoides is the only designated species within this genus, so far. The defining feature of the trilobite is its long, upturned spine extending off the cephalon. Some call it the unicorn trilobite. The function on the spine is not known. It dates from the Lower to Middle Devonian and comes from Morocco. Alongside the Morocconites on this plate, are two Gerastos (Proetus) granulosus. Gerastos (Proetus) is by nature a small trilobite with holochroal eye lenses.
The Morocconites is 2.88 inches long (excluding the rostral spine) and 1.2 inches wide. Well-preserved Schizochroal lenses are present in both eyes.
The larger of the Gerastos is 1.32 inches long and 0.98 inches wide. The trilobites with the matrix is 4.55 inches by 3.0 inches by 2.34 inches.
The Morocconites has a repair running across the tip of the rostral spine and into the right free cheek.
